... this toys with thoughts kinda like Perception, but inside-out! :)) xx

LUMINARIES

Within is their dark space,
a secret womb sealed
by sleep-kissed eyelids,
light-sensitive dreams.

Here they grow unseen
in suspended fertile sanctuary,
threads of intuition
stitching them soul to soul,
pools of psychic waters
moulding their shape.

Theirs is a brooding lake,
concealed chamber,
warm and silent refuge;

an undetected breeding ground
spawning fresh sight.

Ummm, insightful picture of what waits within the inwards....The beginning knowledge set forth of psychic deep that waits for our growth, intuition growing, "a secret womb sealed by sleep-kissed eyelids." Great imagery, great simile so subtle it is hardly noticed..........Jerry

Kate, I like every line of this poem. I like its sparkling brevity too.
It all feels right: the water element, the soulful place, the silence, the secret separateness and, of course, the light.

Kate - Unique analogy - people as luminaries. Paper bags with candle light glowing inside. Especially liked the lines,

threads of intuition
stitching them soul to soul,

and the concluding lines,

an undetected breeding ground
spawning fresh sight.

This poem is so speculative, Kate and of course, that is exactly what poetry should be. For me, it is stepping out of the darkness and into the light, Kind of like Dorothy stepping out of the black and white world and into a Technicolor Munchkin Land. Beautiful poetry!
Take care,
Sherry

I might-could use this, Kate. It's a good bridge from my "Mind Belly Limbs" to insight. I'll post my oldie so you can see what I mean.

I love the continuity herein--the gentle, soft sounds of l-m-n trees (such a lovely mouthful, mmmmm!)- and that beautiful image of a concealed chamber is delicious too.

This poem is dessert. :) --Charlie

Ah, light breaks where no sun shines, to quote Dylan Thomas. We can read this poem in a number of ways, most obvious being the foetus in the womb,
or even little tadpoles in the village pond .... well, that's stretching it maybe, though the word spawning does suggest that gelatinous race of little swimmers. Keep shining forth with you illuminations, dear kate!

Interesting train of thoughts, stitching imagery into one soul is what this poem does to me! You have perfected the subtle art of balancing thematic and anti-thematic tension. A great job.

This spoke to me on a spiritual note... It spoke to me of the light within each of us, that although at times it may be dim, it is still there...a warm and silent refuge, but also one that when fed and used for light gives new insight and fresh sight to all around it...

An enlightening read...

to the epicenter of luminary creativity you have led me by the hand -- the light that is to be, is birthed from within the confines of that mystical place -- oh, it is not solitary, for it exists within the capabilities of each of us -- we, humanity, the twits of the universe -- and every now and then, a gem is released that serves the whole humanity with a good and decent message of good will -- blessed be those breeding grounds of luminaries -- yes my dear Kate, you've done this thing admirably -- it is the good stuff as I like to term it -- peace and love to you -- Jon Michael

I love coming here, it's like Forest Gump said and I will paraphrase, "Going to Kate's site is like opening a box of poems, you never know what you are going to get." If Forest knew Kate he would have certainly said that.
