Flesh And Bone

... I have a hunch I was born in the wrong era! :)) I had an evening-in with The Tudors last night and, after seeing something of all the shenanigans they got up to, it makes Halloween look rather tame...!! xx

FLESH AND BONE

Oh, to do away with flesh
that I might slip through walls
and be air that inhabits a lover’s

close-space,
a lover’s
closed-space:

the live-wired
circus-try of his mind,
the vacuum-packed,
prime-pumped pipe-work
of his arteries!

No, not merely air,
but, rather, bone;
rattling and clanking my
ball-and-chained emotions
down endless unlit corridors,

entering into sunless rooms
of his mad-inhabited dreams
with screams, teasing the hair
on his lover’s chest to attention.

But let Lover clothed in flesh remain,
that wet-pink of his juice-stained lips
might count each fragile knuckle
of my downwards curling spine,

search every polished curve
and dew-beaded hollow of my
weightless, trembling frame for
pulses still warm and fast beating.

Oh, I'm a big fan of The Tudors. I just discovered the show a few weeks ago, so I bought the series. I'm in the middle of season two. I also think I was born in the wrong era...lol. I love your descriptions in this poem. One that sticks out is the curling spine. For me, that imagery jumps off the screen and reminds me of several scenes in the series. King Henry VIII seems to want to devour his women at times. Hugs,
Sheila

Where oh where have I been? Somewhere else when I should've been here. It seems in my time away you have graced the page with another masterpiece. This is truly remarkable writing dear Kate. What more could I add than what the others have already said except to say that I wish I'd written this! I sooo relate to the concept underlying this piece. My thoughts have run this path, but not nearly so eloquently.

This seems to have a mind of its own... it rather floats along on its own air and then slides down that polished curve of a banister and ends...wavering in the air of its own fruition...

Exceptional imagery...

As Dawn wrote, your creativity with words is remarkable. I'm particularly receptive to the rhythm and energy and concision of the second and third stanzas.

I was thinking that it could be interesting to choose another century and... live there for a while, but then, who would you choose to be?
I guess that this "detail" is quite essential! ;)

Hah! And the walls do not only tremble, they also talk / The Tudors, et al, could probably even shock this unshockable world of today / And as we speak of ghosts, maybe they will in due time, maybe they will . . .
