Alas....

I am a recovering poet…

I’ve taken the cure….

No rhyme, no meter, for me anymore.

My pencils I’ve broken and cast to the floor.

Once scribbler of thoughts I hoped would endure.

No longer shall I waste my days with this chore….

Sorry… relapse……. I say no more.

SURE you can quit. Of COURSE you can. Ain' like poetry is a drug. Wait. How many times have I tried to fight it off and ended up failing? Tell myself I don't w a n t to stop. Better addicted to it than crack or booze? Sometimes I wonder. Still, when you need something to get you through the night, a poem just might do it. Hangover's worth it? I predict you will be back.
