The touching of my heart
Many have touched my life
Some gentle, some unkind.
Some of them brought great strife
Some also touched my mind.
My parents were the first to care
Brother and sisters too.
They touched me and love did share,
But there was sadness too.
To a schoolmaster I must give a nod
A special interest he did take
He guided me on new paths to trod
My destiny he did shape.
There were childhood friends,
Grown up ones too
There were sweetheart friends
Some I thought were true .
The love I sought so hard to find
For me was not to be
Life I found can be so unkind
Children the only legacy
My children came into my life
What a wonder to behold
As I gazed upon each new-born life
Each more precious than gold.
What a joy it was to love them
And protect them from all fears
To hug them and care for them
And wipe away their tears.
And then into my life you came
And love was found at last
This would not be the same
As anything in the past.
This love has stood the test of time
Through good times and through bad
I thank you for those good times
I also thank you for the bad.
We need bad times to show we care
Enough to stick around
That in the good we are more aware
Of the love that we have found.
I thank you for your kindness
And the good times we have shared
No need to show love’s blindness
We know true love is shared.
I thank you for those little talks
In which we both delight
I thank you for the twilight walks
As the moon shines down so bright.
I thank you for the knowledge too
That we will never part,
But most of all I thank you
For the touching of my heart.
