You came to me in deepest trust, so small and full of life,
And gave me smiles of wonder that cut me like a knife.
How could I do you justice--an Angel sent from above?
Would I make you happy, full of pride, confidence and love?
Such tiny little fingers, such a head full of hair,
Is it any wonder that everyone would smile, stop and stare?
You arrived at such a tearful time, when my life was still in fear,
Of whether I was worthy to have an Angel near.
But God so richly blessed me--He gave you to me,
To restore my dimming faith in the One we cannot see.
You are growing so very quickly, my baby girl is gone,
And in her place, a young girl, whose willful ways are strong.
I pray for my ears to be open, for my eyes to always see,
For my heart to feel your pain, and for the words to set you free.
Your life is ever changing--friends will come and go away,
But I'll be here forever...because true Mothers always stay!
