~ Winds of Change ~

A sudden gust of restless air

came out of the north

swirling around with static fingers

filled with the heat of change

and rising up off the sun-scorched blacktop

are shimmering heat ghosts

haunting the morning air

the images could have been a mirage

the furnace heat was distorting

making them ripple

as if they were a reflection

seeming to evaporate

before your eyes

then reappearing

in the hard light of day

undulating as if on a wild glissade

second by second, gaining speed

threatening the day’s balance

a haunting restlessness

ripples across my skin

arriving on the unexpected

winds of change

Highly imaginative approach to changes observed
and assimilated in the course of a poet's day.
At least, Carole, that's how I read and feel and

Carole, you created an atmosphere of mystery for me -- mirages created when the sun's intense heat, tarmac and thermals conspire to hand us illusions -- or were they truly specters roaming in search of answers never to be found -- this is an exercise in providing many possibilities for the reader to select from -- choosing the one that best fits their personal mood and beliefs -- well done my dear friend -- peace and love -- Jon Michael

Carole,
Tremendous intensity and energy in this poem from first line to last, never letting up, driving on and on, "a haunting restlessness" is perfect for its summary.

I love the way this takes us through the minutes of a day while our hearts and bodies compensate and try to deal with what is. Very nicely done and love the format.
