~ Autumn Serenade ~

the fall sun was

still shrugging off sleep

as the last days of summer

had been pushed off stage

while long shadows

stretched toward winter

the ground was littered with

spent leaves of red and yellow

chestnuts in spiky coats

sat proudly on fingertips

of cold branches

a cool breeze brought with it

clusters of forgotten items

gum wrappers, dried leaves

brown and green duck’s feathers

they danced along

 the reaches of the street

resting then twirling

in step with each gust

a final shimmer

of autumn sun reached through

a French window

hovering winsomely

landing, exhausted

in a series of pale squares

Carol :

In Autumn Serenade you created the perfect poem about
the fall season, and the picture you inserted fits in
just perfectly.

Well done,

Carole, this is the inspirational parlance of the light hearted, sharing the reflective moments of seasonal creep into the countryside -- splendid words that illuminate nature's stage of multi-hued pleasures -- and what a splendid photograph to fix the scene in our minds -- peace and love my dear friend, you excel again with your poetry -- Jon Michael

you take us on a visual journey here, Carole, which is delightful and thoroughly engaging. I feel like I'm settling back comfortably to watch a heartwarming Hollywood epic unravel before my eyes... You Autumnwood feature has me gripped! I love the colourful and gaily-dancing drama unfolding here. xx

How beautiful, Carole. Finding the right words to draw the picture you want to convey causing me, the reader to see what you wish me to see or, what is more important, causing me to feel what you wish me to feel, this serenade of Autumn. Beautifully stated.
