She Waits

In honor of Earth Day...

Patiently she waits
while you walk along the river
and remember
The way she comforted you
in the depths of your sorrow
How the water talked of the joy
that you knew as a child
Wanting nothing and in love
with everything around you

Patiently she waits
While you walk along the shore
Feel the pebbles smooth
under your feet
And marvel at the power
of the sea
Forgetting your troubles
Because they have become small

Patiently she waits
As you ride through the desert
See the glory of her hues
that change and shift
The rock formations
millions of years old
Whose mysteries hold you in awe
and restore the compass within you

Patiently she waits
as you hike through mountains
Whose very air is a silent prayer
and her peaks a temple
The clearing in a stand of trees
the cathedral where you sit
and find peace

Patiently she waits
as you cross the prairie
Hear the whispers of sweet grass
in the restless wind
And the spirits of ancestors
awakening your resolve
Giving you the courage
to venture on

Patiently she waits
But for how long?

Lovely poetry that leaves me with a bittersweet taste in my soul by the question at the end. Very nicely done. Love and peace,

A wonderful ode to Mother Earth; if only far more respected her, and loved her, and realized all she does for us, this planet would be a far better place right now.

Nature has wrapped herself around us and comforted us, sustained us and enlightened us to her plight and yet we still take her for granted, Where will our neglect for her end, and where will it leave is if it doesn't.

Great write, Pierre

Mother nature holds us in her hands. Are we as kind to her? Beautifully written on the Earth's day.

Linda,
The motif of patience, the great virtue, is profoundly appropriate for the theme and occasion, but your question at the end is so right, how long indeed? By now, we must have gone way beyond the limits of testing and the consequences are grim. Thank you for this excellent poem.
