Beds
by Henry Burt Stevens
6/26/2004

Which bed will
your deathbed be?
Can you hear
your breath rattle?

Beds are many
at home, hospital
highway, runway
river, sea.

Beds can be found
while standing--
my father dead
before he hit the floor.

Many find beds
at the end of falling,
or surrounded
by water, water-beds.

Best beds are circled
by family and friends
waiting undertaker
to remove the remains.

Unattended death
not only sad
but removal delayed
by discovery, police report.

Death is not morbid
but unquestionable
eventually unavoidable-
it will become your bed.

Jerry is funny, but the poem is evocative, only spooky if you fear death. ~~Nordette

When I die,
I don't think of humans, I think of God.
I only need God there to welcome me home.
