Felix L. Perry gave (inspired) me with this poem yesterday. Thanks, Felix. See his poem "Who an I?" My home is in SW Florida, and Alligator Creek, nearby, is Gulf of Mexico tidewater. The picture is Henry (me) holding his 12 hour old great grand daughter, Daysie, in July 2001. |

Cycles by Henry Burt Stevens April 24, 2005 www.authorsden.com/henrybstevens
walking this slight elevation above sea level where now a thin skim of dirt hides the bones of sloth, tapirs one toed horses
wondering about the mammoth, dire wolf capybaras who shared whatever land the sea allowed- at times not much
wandering to mounds of the last indigenous humans here, Calusa, their village remains that can be picked and scratched for pottery and arrowheads
while staring out to the salty bay my thought turns to my great grand daughter Daysie and the cycles going forward.
