The hole of hell
by Henry Burt Stevens

www.authorsden.com/henrybstevens

the hole of hell
is naught but
each of us ourselves

tormented by wants
injured by slights
worn down by life

who, unable to
stretch the bonds
that bind our minds

succumb to blandishments
bombarding our eyes
and ears keeping us

busy, twitchy, confused
unable to control our
selves enough to

break out into
calm thoughts
peaceful images-

who should we blame
when we alone
can set us free?

I think this raises some interesting points that will keep us all questioning ourselves and the world that surrounds us. Well done Henry.

You brought out the point that we are the ones that make the choice and you did it really well Henry.

Even though I believe otherwise, that we alone cannot set ourselves free, I also believe you are right, that we control ourselves and what we do is our choice. The belief system we choose will eventually give us the answers one way or the other;-)
Excellent write Henry!

We are the ones who holds our own destiny. Heaven or hell - it's upto ourselves to choose.

It's so funny that I had just drawn a devil last night and then posted a peom about "The Devil Himself" this morning. We poets are sure on the same trend of thoughts.

Ah yes, Henry Stevens, who can we blame but ourselves... Of course, there is much more to *ourselves* than merely *me.* We are all that has gone before, and we all *process* events differently, which is why we are all so varied. Wonderful write!

Peace.
