Chicken crate

standing in the crowd
with a chicken crate
the lady reached down
and sliding the wood door
reached in with two hands
and removed a snow white
dove, lifiting her hands
above her head she gently
tossed the white dove up
into flight and out of sight
her chicken crate held
about a dozen more
but the TV camera panned
away to the crowd milling
out the courtroom door,
yet i thrilled to have seen
the dove released and
wondered about the dozen others,
many, many millions
of people saw what i saw
and did they see this beautiful
symbol of peace and resolution
that had appeared, and could
there be hope more doves
would have occasion
to be released?
