young arise

by Henry Burt Stevens
04/11/2006
authorsden.com/henrybstevens

my old eyes
mist with happy
seeing 75,000
Latinos protest here

zero police incidents
more protest planned
for May 1
you've already

twisted the wrist
of Mr. Frist who
crossed out felony
wrote in misdemeanor

in France other
young paraded
and Mr. Chirac
withdrew an unjust

law aimed at the
rights of youth
workers those
just starting

happy me
to see the
Sorbonne occupied
first time since 1968

cheered me believing
the young people
always win in end
the greyheads lose.
