I Fought the Fight

This was written after the lowest point of my fight with breast cancer. Chemotherapy was particularly hard on my system. It was an uphill battle but I am here. Last year, I was fighting for my life and had to be assisted to stand and walk, and I had to be fed intravenously because I couldn't even swallow my own saliva. Today, I am here, alive, and I stand tall because of the might of God in my life.

So many days have passed my friend,

I didn’t realize just when,

But I’ve made it here somehow.

The worst it seems is over now.

My right breast is now history.

I’m thru with Chemotherapy.

I’m thru with Radiology.

And, I look forward to what life holds for me.

I’m feeling better each and everyday.

I’m now moving in a positive way.

My patience and my health were wearing thin,

And I wrestled hard with Cancer to win.

Now I no longer feel despair;

But I still feel the wear and tear.

I still feel the pains from Chemotherapy.

I have severe burns from Radiology.

Somehow, it really toughened me.

It strengthened my Spirituality.

My life now has a new directive,

And, a totally different perspective;

I see things in a different light.

I fought with Cancer,

Yes… I fought the fight.

Now I live and I savor everyday

Because I don’t intend to let life slip away.

No more worrying about the little things;

I look forward to what each moment brings.

I am ecstatic that I’m still here;

But death is something I no longer fear.

I’ve come to terms with my mortality.

I had to face hard facts about reality.

You see my friends I came to realize

I walk with death each moment I am alive.

I pause; I take a breath; I open my eyes,

And I thank the Lord I can still see the skies.

That is beautiful what a blessing you have to be able to know this and see it. Sad to have to go through Cancer but a glorious blessing you have to see more clearly not everyone can see as you do.
