This poem was inspired by my friend JennyLynn Patrick with whom I had many conversations. I was battling Breast Cancer, and she Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Today June 21st,2005 she lost her battle with cancer. She was a trooper to the end. I dedicate this to her memory for she inspired this poem when she told me one day that cancer for us ... is a bend in the road,a turning point in our lives...and I said to her wow...this is a poem...and I hung up the phone and thus this poem was born ...labor was 15 minutes and delivery..well you decide...
I came to a point in my life everything looked so bleak
My health situation was so grim I could barely speak
I got so down and out I had to turn to my best friend...
On my knees, arms outstretched, I thought it was the end.
With tears in His eyes, He said to me
" Rise up, rise up my friend.'
He placed my hands in His wounds,
He told me, " it is not the end."
"It's a bend in the road; a moment of truth;
A turning point in your life.
You know you can count on me even when there is no strife.
I am always here for you; I am Jesus;
I am your Best Friend.
I was there in the beginning; I am there in the middle;
I will be there in the end,
My name is Jesus Christ; I am the Son of God...
I gave my life on the cross for you,
I didn't shed my precious blood
Because I had nothing else to do.
I am Jesus Christ; I am your Best Friend;
I didn't have to die that faithful day,
I could've changed everything;
I have the power, my friend, I could've walked away.
But I chose to carry the cross; I chose to suffer;
I chose to die on Calvary...
With arms outstretched,
My Precious Blood, was shed to redeem thee
No greater love than this has any man shown;
I died on the cross for thee
My love is unconditional;
My love is free;
I am your Best Friend through eternity."

This is a wonderful tribute to your friend. I am sure through this poem you have helped many overcome the loss of a loved one. Through the Lord, through your friend and through your words, a memory lives on helping others over time. Very well written.
This tribute is so beautiful and heartfelt. I work with Cancer patients daily and the disease robs them of so much..... I salute anyone that can overcome the dreadful ending and be victorious. But then when we love Jesus My best friend makes the homecoming also joyous. I am sorry for the loss of your dear friend....
You've taken the worst of it, and made the BEST. Wonderful tribute to your dear friend, may she rest in peace!
May you win your battle is my prayer.
Take care,
Love Ch'erie
A deeply touching beautiful write. The loss of a good friend is a terrible thing, but somehow the love is never lost. A wonderful tribute to friendship in general and to your friend especially.
