World that Could Be
Beauty abounds,
if we’re willing to see.
It’s for us to decide
what its future will be.
We make choices about it,
each moment, each day:
What to toss, perhaps forever,
and what to let stay.
There’s much more at stake
than just outer saving
At our peril we deny
an equal inner craving.
Splendor forms first
in the heart, then the eye;
Selfishness dooms
sustaining forest to die.
It dooms, too, the chance
for humankind to thrive,
To fulfill highest purpose,
not just to survive.
So let’s open our hearts,
as we save the grove,
Give all hearts a chance
to savor the trove.
Our own eyes see more
if the means we employ
Enlarge inspiring vistas
for more souls to enjoy,
And our souls expand,
with beauty anew
When we save for us all,
including me, including you.
