I enjoy my pets but Sammy is my boy. I often wonder what I would do without him. I have seen my friends after a loss of a pet and many don't want to go through the pain and loss again. Well, it's painful but that is also part of life. So after much prayer and meditation, this is my answer to adapting a new friend.

Adopting a New Friend

I love my pet like no other. He is my best friend, my soul mate, my brother

Yes, he is also like a son to me as he treats me with kindness and dignity

Yes, I know if Sammy were sick I would give him loving, care until the very end.

I am happy now but if Sammy were to be taken away what I would do then?

Yes, I would miss my boy, my companion, my friend.

Yes, but to have a friend that even comes close to Sammy would be a Godsend!

Yes, I would adopt another pet if Sammy were gone today.

I would pray for a pet who needed extra love and care right away.

Letting go would not be not easy, but there are pets waiting on "death row" for a friend.

So "Yes" I would adopt another pet, a new friend and I would gladly do it over again and again.

Amen

A wonderful poem for a wonderful cause. After my Jazz (see the story of his death posted year) died, I decided that I couldn't take care of A pet and haven't had one since.

What an utterly charming and meaningful write. They are teachers in the art of living, and in the end, in letting go. When I go to the shelters I have a terrible time leaving without bringing them all home.
Blessings,
Christine

Aw! Sammy is adorable, John...it is very hard to overcome the grief of losing a beloved pet...but in the end, I agree there are so many waiting for the kind of love a 'true' pet lover can offer....it's so worth opening up your heart again.....

My little dachshund, Angel died 3 years ago, between the vet and hospital stay overnight they both had given her insulin within hours of each other (lack of communication) and she was overdosed. I still bare such a weight of loss, I still have her ashes and now will finally bury them and move on like you say. I have Callie my puggle and memories of my little Angel. (if you have time I wrote a poem about her titled 'Angel')
Blessings,
Christine

Sammy is a Godsend, as are all precious pets. And so many of them are at shelters now, waiting and hoping that someone will save them and love them, as God intended us to do.
