IN BETWEEN
Thoughts swirling in his head
Past and present eternally immersed
Fleeting visions of loved ones dead
Convinced his future ever cursed.
Joy no longer in his sight
Dreams of youth long since faded
Dreading every sleepless night
Faith and hope lost and jaded.
The wisdom of his own reality
Born only to have lived and died
Never understanding life’s farcicality
Can this be wisdom he sadly cried.
Once the promise of so much more
On wings of dreams he once soared
With hope of opening that scared door
Finding all life’s treasures stored.
Just waiting there for him to claim
Shared with loved ones he so adored
Alas there was no such fame
Only old age to be abhorred .
Then at last but much too late
He realized we all live and die
What we do in between is out fate
Enjoy the journey his final cry.
