SEPTEMBER by Evelyn Norris Wednesday, June 06, 2001 Share Print Save Become a Fan September won HM in a national poetry contest underwritten by Milton Berle and Florence Henderson July 10, 1991. I was to read it at the national meeting in CA but could not attend.
September stole into my hear Soft as morning mist Rising over my pond, Gentle as summer rain. I was unprepared And unaware, But September knew and laughed! She came suddenly, Refreshing me with cooling breeze Quieting my restlessness, And I knew summer was gone Leaving me and September alone. She came, Alluring in her beauty And carried me high As only red wine can do. The first touch of autumn Had arrived, And none but September and I knew. Evelyn Norris
