Pavlov's Cat

I think most people know the story of Pavlov's Dogs, an experiment in behaviourals science to show that all higher mammals have the ability to learn in the same way humans do...

They may feed and shelter me,
groom and pet and pamper me,
make my bed on satin pillows,
adorn my neck with pretty bows
but still I shall not fetch thrown sticks
nor perform amusing tricks
and beg for treats from master's hand;
nor march to King or Priest's command.
I will not work 'til I am old
to earn myself a scrap of gold
but go the way of my own choosing
and thus gain more than I risk losing.

And while we extol the virtues of thinking for oneself, the academic fascists of medical science are cooking up new ways to control our minds. The latest is a pill to erase traumatic or unpleasant memories.

Free Speech and the Freedom To Offend

I never understood why we work until we are so old we cannot enjoy life. Or for some...we work until our deaths. It is crazy. What is the point of living. Now cats! They most certainly do as they please.

Cute and very well written poem. ~ Sara

A profoundly philosophical write as relevant to human beings as to the entities we sometimes claim as "pets" or "subjects for experiments." I suspect that one of the biggest mistakes humans make is to presume that one's definition or understanding of a thing really is the totality of that "thing." More than a little food for thought in these very wise lines.

Yes, cat's to a "T"! That's why I am a cat person, no one is their master and no one is mine:) I loved this, as I adore kitties and their cold shoulders:)

Stop talking to Magic, Nemesis & Mystere. They know quite enough without you giving them theility. A word to be treasuered in cat owners manuals.
