The Man in the Picture, Woman in the Mirror

when we look at ourselves, what do we see

 I knew from the start,

We would not have the same name

In the end.

So, why do I stay, I asked the

Woman in the mirror

I walk away, from the stare

I look at pictures of us together

We look so happy to everyone

But behind closed doors,

We are no longer that same couple

Why do I stay with the man in picture

I ask the woman in the mirror

He cannot love me, the way

A lover, a husband, a committed other

He made that clear in the beginning

We would not have the same name

In the end

I’ve caught his eyes wondering on others

As my mind does when another’s eyes

Seeks me out

Times are hard these days,

Are we just staying to help each other out

The perfect couple we are not

In the near future is a fresh start

For when I look at the man in

The picture, I see a unhappy woman

Staring back at me in the

mirror

Sadly, your words express a universal and timeless theme of this life/world. I think that some people just don't know how to love and certainly, I know many who don't know a thing about romance and all that goes with it, including keeping promises (or not making any that one does not intend to keep). Thank you. Love and best wishes,

Regis
