Summer of '96

Another fond memory

During the summer of ’96,
I walked the quiet streets
Of the city’s downtown
One peaceful Saturday night.

The riverfront, framed
Between concrete walls,
Conducted silent currents
Toward the edge of town.

I shared steps of reflection
With my wife and infant son;
The babe kept his peace
In the cradle of my arms.

He was awake and gazing,
Ebony dots reflecting the glow
Of the street lights on his face
As he took in his surroundings.

I glanced down at my first-born,
And knew I would give anything
To get a brief glimpse of life
As seen through my baby’s eyes.

Children are our reflection and that is a notable goal to see through their eyes. If we could there would be less confusion;-)Great write Robert!

Hard to recall the innocence of our youth, isn't it. Life tends to corrupt us in order for us too just get by. This is a good one, Robert.

Okay Bob, that can be accomplished if you get very, very drunk, then strip down naked, put on an adult pair of pampers (chuks), get your wife to put you in a wagon, pretending it is a stroller, and take you for a walk where you took your first born that time...if you survive that, anything is possible...;) Ed

What a tender reminscence. I can see the scene in my mind. Good work and wish your first born a happy 10th birthday this summer.
