Reflections after fifty years of marriage

On that fateful Spring night

the music was so loud

that I could not quite hear

your whispers in my ear.

I nodded with my head

Feigning to be polite;

Little did I know that

I had signed up for life!

Fifty years together

were not an easy ride;

we have had our fair share

of taking life in stride.

I think it’s only fair

That I should now confide;

I wish I’d heard you better

On that fateful Spring night!

Just for clrification. I was not married for 50 years. I just put myself into the skin of those who have been and somehow survived. This poem is imaginary but the core of it is real. The question was popped during a dance when the music was loud. I somehow wiggled out of it. I'm not sorry. As writers we do get into the soul of other characters. I guess our imagination works overtime.
