an ode to the young black male

What do you mean you don’t trust him?

He’s just starting out.

Just when did all this doubt and suspicion

Dare to come about?

Don’t start projecting onto him

What his daddy did,

Give him a chance to grow and learn,

Besides, he’s just a kid.

Yeah, he’s a black male,

And I’m aware of the statistics,

But if we show him the way to go

He’s won’t have those characteristics.

Making assumptions this early in his life

Can’t be that good for him.

Don’t toss him out like yesterday’s news

Or reject him on a whim.

He has potential like anyone else

To make a difference in this world

So if you keep talking that negative talk

I’m sho-nuff gonna hurl.

So cut him some slack, get off his back

And let him do his thing.

Hey look, you just might need him later

When he’s running everything.
