When Sally was only three
She was brought to live by the sea;
When Sally was only three,
She gave her soul to the sea;
Her little toes sinking in golden sand
She would gaze in wonder at the blue expanse;
And made crowns of shells
For her long fair hair;
Sally rode on the waves
With the surf on her face;
The splash of blue on her legs
As the sun would caress her hair;
Then a young man from land
Came to claim Sally’s hand;
The date was set
And the guests there met,
But they waited in vain
Even through the rain
Sally wanted to be
One last time with the sea;
But her jealous lover the wide wide sea,
Embraced her and took her away from here;
They say sometimes when the wind is strong
You can hear Sally singing her joyful song,
With a crown of shells
And a veil of mist
on her beautiful golden hair.
