The Far Corner (SAFC)
In the Championship, there stand alone
One mighty club, heart chilled to the bone
Watching the premiership from that dark far off place
Forcing a smile on a dark far off face
In the championship, no support is like ours
Follow the lads in hail, snow and showers
Seeking the premiership, so close yet so far
In search of promotion, that bright burning star
In the championship, hands over the face
Penalty shoot out at that unfinished place
How does it grip, why won’t it let go
Championship’s no friend; it’s a dark bloody foe
To the premiership our great team will soar
Carried along by the great stadium’s roar
Compete with the best, we’ve nothing to fear
Playing in our fortress on the banks of the Wear
Now the Championship, its grip has been broken
Because of the words our manager has spoken
And all of a sudden the darkness has lifted
The fantastic team, it really is gifted
Out on the field two teams they appear
And all round the ground we sing and we cheer
Smiling bright faces that beam with delight
From all four corners of The Stadium of Light
In the far corner it’s just like a dream
Out on the field our beloved team
Stuffing the Mags, we’re so full of verve
Magic Johnston with his great body swerve
Now the far corner so often berated
Has magically changed, it’s illuminated
And in the far corner you’ll always find me
Bowed to the stars of SAFC
