Taken from the book Savior, this poem is about the consequences of devaluing human life.
"THE SACRIFICIAL LAMBS"
Atonement is exacted
It is a price must pay
Throughout history it’s been the same
a few suffer for the sake of many
Memorials are built to honor the brave
But no stone could ever hold
The magic of one moment of life
We lessen the sacrifice
Those have made
Who’ve paid the price
that others may live
When we take what is sacred
For our selfish reasons
What honor can death hold when compared
To the triumph of birth
Life is challenge enough
The struggle to survive
Ended without choice
A cold reception of darkness
Unwanted
As long as we shed our humanity
For selfish means
We will continue to pay the price
And innocent lambs
Will be sacrificed
