Her words were like honey on a fingertip
She painted them on walls just to watch them drip
Down the halls beneath the waterfalls is where they would slip
Then sailors would spread them from ship to ship.
I would recite her words but no land-lover stopped and heard
They floated to the sky and were eaten by birds
Taken to their nests where they would finally find rest
I tried my best but what I did would just turn into a mess.
Come sail with me
Behold secrets from the seas
You won’t be able to touch me
But there I’ll be
Wandering. . . . . .
Her beauty was in her eyes
She could see my soul
Blue to green
Green to blue
Hip to hip.
Come walk with me
Hold my hand
So if you should slip
I could carry back to my ship.
My words she couldn’t understand
Too much of the old man
Embellished in my bones
Yet, I couldn’t leave her alone.
Night after night
I drove her insane
Still, she remained
And I, the same.
Her body like honey to an old bear
Sometimes, I couldn’t help but stare
Her beauty like a sunset that wouldn’t turn dark
Spreading bread crumbs to swans in the park
Taken to their nests where they would finally find rest
One of these days, she’ll see my best.
