*****No Thanks To My Best Friend******

When I hungered for food

You broke bread with me

When I desired affection

You came to me

Down to the sea of a thousand faces

Flying through the air to exotic places.

You took me to Your garden

But it didn’t come without a cost

Thrones and thistles – paradise lost

Guardian Cherubim

Figs and apples

All kinds of samples.

I realized I was starving

There You were at the table – carving

Handing me a plate I was marveling

The gravy spilled

Why, I’ll never know, You were thrilled

As if the fatted calf had just been killed.

And with wings of hope I flew away

It wasn’t long I got to stay

I knew it was imminent

But I didn’t think it would be today

I now had a thousand words I wanted to say

But they were poured into a box of wet cement.

Thrown into the bottom of the deepest sea

Forgotten by You – Yet remembered by me

Can’t you see. . . . .

Can’t you see

You forgave me. . . . .

You forgave me

I never forgave myself. . . . .

I never forgave myself.

The last thing I wanted was help. . . . . .

Pride won

All the slices of bread I missed out on.

Still . . . .handing me a plate marveling

The gravy spilled

Why, I’ll never know, You were thrilled

As if the fatted calf had just been killed.

Darkness loomed

A forest fire consumed

And there I took all my idols to be burned

Paradise Returned.

That ending is excellent, and the rushing of words and movement towards it really work.

"I never forgave myself"
It's been one of my struggles too,
since I was a little boy,
It's that chorus of voices that continually
remind me that I suck Doug, and that I'm a sinner,
and that HE doesn't love me, and that I will
never amount to anything, yada yada yada!
The list of accusations is long
and has become wearisome.

Thank GOD for moments of peace
and insights like yours.
