When I hungered for food
You broke bread with me
When I desired affection
You came to me
Down to the sea of a thousand faces
Flying through the air to exotic places.
You took me to Your garden
But it didn’t come without a cost
Thrones and thistles – paradise lost
Guardian Cherubim
Figs and apples
All kinds of samples.
I realized I was starving
There You were at the table – carving
Handing me a plate I was marveling
The gravy spilled
Why, I’ll never know, You were thrilled
As if the fatted calf had just been killed.
And with wings of hope I flew away
It wasn’t long I got to stay
I knew it was imminent
But I didn’t think it would be today
I now had a thousand words I wanted to say
But they were poured into a box of wet cement.
Thrown into the bottom of the deepest sea
Forgotten by You – Yet remembered by me
Can’t you see. . . . .
Can’t you see
You forgave me. . . . .
You forgave me
I never forgave myself. . . . .
I never forgave myself.
The last thing I wanted was help. . . . . .
Pride won
All the slices of bread I missed out on.
Still . . . .handing me a plate marveling
The gravy spilled
Why, I’ll never know, You were thrilled
As if the fatted calf had just been killed.
Darkness loomed
A forest fire consumed
And there I took all my idols to be burned
Paradise Returned.
