Sometimes I Wonder

Sometimes I wonder

Who reads my poetry?

Those that are kind enough to leave a review

I try to reciprocate – I do.

Yet, I can’t always, due to health issues.

But this is for you

Who reads and leaves

Did you like it?

Were you moved?

Did you disprove?

Were you inspired

To write even higher?

Was I a muse

To be used?

Did you understand?

Was it even possibly grand?

Or did it end up in your trash can?

Did you read it to the end?

Did you think what it might be about?

Did you get chills or goose bumps?

Were you stumped?

Sometimes I’ve seen 50 hits

Not one review

Did I leave you speechless?

Was the point missed?

Did you resist?

Sometimes I wonder

Who reads my poetry.

I know it’s easy to do

I didn’t write this to get more reviews

I just wonder how it

(If it did)

Effect you.

[This was written after I realize my poem “Integrity” went over 2600 hits. It has 7 reviews. I first posted it back in Aug ’06 and to this day still averages almost 25 hits per week! All I can say, I guess, God has blessed it!]

Thank You for reading it.          Doug

It's hard to understand sometimes, what others like. I think most of your poems that I have read have alays impressed me in a positive way. methinks we just have to be happy that we are read and the comments are a bonus. You are a fine poet,so just keep writing ,and be pleased with your own accomplishments!

Yeah!!!!!!!!Know what you mean. I have been away a while. Now, feel like an unknown. As I get no feed back. OH Well!!!!Don't take it to heart. Not everyone reads our work. So What!!!!It's their loss. 'lil flower

I haven't read any of your work before but I like this poem. It asks many questions that many authors ask themselves. You put it on paper and did quite well.

I can relate! Some poems it doesn't bother me. others, where I really feel as though they are a part of me or something special to me...those it does hurt.

Maybe your poem, "Integrity" is on the Popular Listing of poems, or maybe your poem comes up on browser searches for "integrity" & people who aren't members of AD are reading it...
Those are the only things I can figure are happening with some of my poems which have 500+ hits in the past 9 months and comparably very few reviews.

You know Doug, I can totally relate
to this poignant lament. Without sounding sappy
know that you are loved and appreciated in this camp,
and all that you post, that I read, is a blessing and,
in one way or another, helps me to become a better person.

Working fifty hours a week, and disciplining myself to writing 10 or 12 hours a week leaves not a lot of time to review. Stand strong!
