What to do when the dead
Pile up
Around our children’s bare feet,
When we swim
Through blood, let waist-deep?

How long will we allow slaughter
By those who run
Mouthing “God” in any tongue,
Giving Him
Any name—
And meaning only
To run
And to kill?
