I posted this poem a few weeks ago. In the interim I’ve had it set to (country and western) music.

East’s so pretty, but too dang wet,
Damp and humid, breathin’s hard,
And the biggest bugs you ever met,
Get in th’ house from out in th’ yard,
Can’t go walkin’ the woods about,
‘Less ticks you want to stick on you,
Itchin’ chiggers could do without,
Swarmin’ gnats, an’ deer flies too.
Pack my bags for Albuquerque,
Cuttin’ a trail an’ headin’ West,
May seem t'you a bit too quirky,
But a big dry sky fits me best.
A real close look at what one sees,
With specks for cows an' horses too,
Lonesome ranch in a bunch o’ trees,
Invitin’ to me, th’ whole day through.
Desert’s got critters t’ be aware,
Tooth an’ claw some pain can bring,
‘Neath rocks an’ cactus hide their lair,
Spring t’ bite ‘n stab their sting.
My bags’r bound for Albuquerque,
I’m settin’ sail an’ headin’ West,
May seem a might too quirky,
But a western sky fits me th’ best.
But pack my bags for Albuquerque,
Make a trail an’ head out West,
Leavin' where th' sky's too murky,
Big dry sky’s done passed my test.
YahoooooOO! Albuquerque!
Hot air b’loons — October fest!
Gotta seem a damn bit quirky —
But I got my bags, I'm headin’ west!

| Oh this was great! I played this for my hubby and he got misty eyed. He is originally from Cerrillos NM about halfway between Alburquerque and Santa Fe off Route 14. You want to talk about a quirky town that is it. You couldn't have described the east coast any better. I'm a native Marylander and I get frustrated with it. |

Giddy-up, Leland. Great song. I am a little (but pleasantly) surprised at having this side of your creative spirit revealed. Love and peace,

With your usual precision, you pulled this one off. A nice, catchy tune with a message. The singing and playing are first rate. Did you do either?

YAAAAAAHOOOOOOO!!! Move over, Tim McGraw, Leland Waldrip is here to stay! LOL! Wow, my dearest friend, this is really good... you're a man of endless talents, now I'm more certain than ever!
Lots of warm country {{{{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}}}} and love from the Portuguese country girl
Alexandra
(Btw... Albuquerque is a Portuguese name, so this song may have had some Portuguese "blessings" from afar!) |

| Hey! Future hall of fame song writer, nice work. I've been tempted to try something like that, may look around one of these days for some local talent to put my words to music. Oh, loved the song, but it is the words that do it for me. |
