I first saw her lying on the floor
She was so petite and chalky gray
Her eyes were closed, she appeared at peace
She had died quietly during the night
Only eight months she lived in this world
What had she experience but pain?
Unnatural to only weigh six pounds
Her tiny frame not yet begun to grow
She fell asleep in momma’s arms
Awoke in her guardian Angels wings
She had snuggled near his bosom
As he proudly rendered her unto God
I looked on as an ambulance driver
Wrapped her in a sheet with love
When he looked my way I read from his eyes
“This one really hurts”
I remembered that I had taken notice to
An unnatural light radiating from the home
Angels of heaven must have been encamped
To stand guard, to protect her soul
Many times I have seen death up close
Emotionless, a defense to the hearts door
No discipline could arrest the tears once I beheld
This beautiful cherub so lifeless and cold
I saw the death angel today
He breathed triumphant jubilation
A special delivery from heaven
Returned to the throne of God
