A short humorous write about one of those strange moments we all experience...

 A Speeding Bullett...

I strange thing happened today
as I drove to town
I was enjoying the scenery
breathing in the fresh air and meditating
just journeying on my way
to hurry there was no need.
Listening to the radio with the sunroof down...
That's when I saw it!
Approaching from behind
at a rapid speed!

From out of nowhere a black hearse
like a black bullet…

Came speeding past me!
Why was it in such a hurry?
My mind began to whirl…
For an appointment

Maybe they were late?

I don’t think so…
as I was sure
their passenger had already met their fate!

No mourners were following behind
as it rapidly gained speed
where were they going in such a hurry
without a body...what was the need!
I wondered about this shadowy taxi
now turning down Fifth Street
as it disappeared out of sight
what was their destination?

One thing I knew for sure…
if the driver did not slow down…
His maker he would soon meet!

Reminded me of a funeral I conducted where I had to slow the pallbearers down to a halt just short of the hall entrance. I adjudged that the mourners had still to gather their thoughts and composed themselves in readiness to stand. At another funeral I took the steward did not even take the time to shake my hand. 'You've only got eighteen minutes at most to start and finish the service,' he brusquely stated. Not only this, he practically ordered the mourners to leave the forecourt after the service in order for the next funeral to move forward. Lightening Funeral Services is an apt title for some companies.

An interesting poem and I wonder why he was drivng so fast. This would be a great starter for one of those stories that people add their thoughts to. I bet they could think up dozens of reasons why they think a black hearse was zipping down the road like a bullet.

I like the way you turn a simple experience into poetry. Nicely done.

Funny...Maybe they were in a hurry to get their passenger in the ground.

This was full of energy, mystery, and images, leaving me wondering too. One thing for sure, if they don't slow down they'll be the one riding in a coffin in the hearse. A nice write.
