| It is so great that you stand by these kind of children who have not good homes and drugged up parents. Why do they have these children if they use drugs and want to ruin them. They are our future generation and need to remain clean and learn rules and regulations and the good old reading, writing, arithmetic by a great teacher who care like you do. I commend you on this ability. Sometimes it must be hard, especially dealing with the parents. |

I definitely could feel the passion of a teacher who truly cares about each and every one of her students. Too often the teachers are quick to label the children as "coming from a bad home," and "these children won't amount to much." It's these children that have to work ten times harder than the child in a good, loving environment and who are smart. I recall a young boy I used to stand up for every year. He definitely was worth speaking up for as he was a child that needed a voice. Unfortunately, he was labeled and considers himself a failure today. Whenever I see the young man I always encourage him to keep thinking positive. You have a heart of gold Joyce and any child that has you for their teacher is most fortunate. Great, powerful write with stong convictions and beliefs!

I watch that show "Intervention" frequently and I've seen the emotional burden addicts put on their families. I feel fortunate and thankful to not have personal experience with this issue. I love how your determination and caring come through in this poem. Children should not have to pay for deadly choices made by their parents. This poem is a persuasive way to spread awareness for the victims of these situations. Love and Hugs~

Dear Joyce,
The drug problem is global and it is now used as a political tool to destroy not just families but nations. It is true what you say about "a home that is not safe...a haven it's not...uncaring and cold." It is the breeding ground of drug addiction but not always.
Sometimes it is in the schools themselves.
Your writing about it makes us wake up and be aware, and do our part to prevent it.
Just another mother,
Cynthia |

| Joyce, such an important write, just like you are as a teacher interested in the children. Teachers plant good seeds in all of our children & those children will never forget them. It's so sad when children have to face parents who are drug addicts and who could care less if the children eat, all they want is their next fix. People often say, "I don't know what's happening to the people in this world," well, this is an example...children learn from their parents and if a child is not taught at home it's hard for them to take with them into adulthood good morals. I loved your article it is great! |

Once an individual, now a parent...life takes on a whole other meaning...not only are we responsible for our own actions but we must be for them...and like my special friend from Jamaica, Lucy, always would say..."You can't plant peas and expect to harvest corn"
If every community decided to become serious in making their children, and their homes, their environments, etc... healthy and safe, then, each and every member within, could find a constructive plan among them, to rid of the wraths...we would see changes for the better, little by little.
What ever happen to the cheap local fairs that kept the families entertained? To take your children to the fairgrounds today costs you a two days salary...and one days pay for gas just to get there! Not to mention, admissions at the gates...
Many of our young are being forced to think, what's the point in working when it gets you nowhere...might as well blow the little money I do get, to get something to make all the worries go somewhere else!
Then, when they realize this isn't working they assume they must be depressed and the Dr.'s sell them a legalized drug that does the same thing, with the same effects, then when they realize they are no longer recognized by anyone they knew, or remember knowing, due to the effects all this had on their brains, they decide to commit suicide to make it all go away for good!
We must get back to simple basics. The insructional manuel!
The Holy Bible!
For mothers to mother, the fathers to father...and the fairgrounds to be free to get in! ...and I would love to pile the kids into a station wagon with their jammies on to watch a Drive-In movie, while I kiss my husband up in the front seat...:)
Memories...
Oh! how I wish the children to be children, once again...
Parents to parent....
Bless you for writing this, Joyce
Love and Peace~
Kimmy~

| This is a wonderful write, Joyce. Teachers really are a selfless group and you stand out among them as being just that. Someone has to look out for these children and if not the teacher then who do they have to turn to when their worlds at home are centered around drugs and likely a loveless environment. Your poem states a a sad truth. |

God bless you for caring, it is this kind of attitude that is so lacking in the world today. Parents too busy working for "the dream" not seeing the hell that is awaiting them for neglecting their children. Add that to the rest of the apathetic world and we have the situation that continues today with no end in sight. Prayer is a must!I pray for more people like you so these youth can have a chance
Thank you Joyce!...ET |

by a home that’s not safe!
A haven it’s not…
uncaring and cold!
How so sadly true, for far too many precious little ones. It seems our great Apathy today, about so many things, even includes parenting, in far too many cases. |

It breaks my heart to see so many children suffer because their parents aren't willing to be responsible. I see more and more kids placed on medications today for their behavior that is caused from the drugs the parents took. Shame, shame.
