In Memory of...my Boomer

My heart is heavy from the loss of my best friend of nearly eleven years...my little canine pal Boomer. Remember me in your thoughts and prayers as my heart is heavy from grief...

In Memory of Boomer

In this life we are given much
family, adventure, and friends
just to mention a few…
Days come
swiftly they pass
memories we make
a lifetime they last.
A friend I was given
of a different sort
small, furry, warm and compassionate
my heart she stole from day one
my life she quickly became a part
warming my feet at night
walking by my side
waking me in the early a.m.
for her day to start.
Working with me in the garden
helping to round up the goats
by the creek she quietly sat by my side
when it thundered…
beneath the cover she did hide
a bath she did not enjoy
how the weeds irritated her eyes
at Christmas her stocking she would raid
in search of a brand new toy!
The first to greet me when I got home
bouncing in her joyful kind of way
“I’m so glad to see you!”
It seemed she tried to say.
My friend when the evening grew long
my comfort when my feelings were hurt
a compassionate nudge she would give
when too quiet I became
now my home…lonesome and quiet
without the tapping of her paws
my heart it aches from the loss
of my canine friend…
my little Boomer…
I’m so glad for eleven years you were mine
but without you…
my life will never be quite the same…

AWE! "I" did not see, feel or experience this ( your heartfelt words in such expressive verses) Lady J -
I am so sorry for your grief, that you were feeling at that/this time!
Loosing our loved ones (even furry pet friends) is heartening!
I know these feelings all too well, the connection to OUR HEARTS they sure impart!
Such sadness you expressively wrote so well, 11 years is wonderful unending time with her heart and soul!
This poem touched me deeply and brought many < <tears>> I guess were needed ~
YOu wrote of such beautiful imagery! HAPPY and SAD times/memories...
YOU will see "BOOMER" again, in the heavens! as he wags his knowing tail to you again and that shine in his eyes will bring a happiness to yours!

I had to come back to read this poem again. I was too choked up to do anything but leave the first time. I lost Simon, a baying beagle, this spring and I am still having trouble. I don't take the loss of a dog well. I'm sorry about your Boomer. Liz
