The Woman in Red

I have always been a people watcher...as there's always a story awaiting to be created and told...

The Lady in Red

Across a crowded room
alone with her thoughts
again she was dressed in red
idle she sat in silence.
Beautiful…as in days gone by…
yet different somehow…
upon a quick glance
obvious it was,
missing was the glimmer, her sparkle
that shine…
no words necessary
her dark eyes divulged the secret
the emptiness within
had devoured her
leaving no purpose for life
hollow, her once felt joy
now dead.
The world was her oyster
the sky the limit
material objects
laid at her feet
whatever she wished
whatever she desired…
they could not, did not fill the void
her needs they did not meet.
Happiness now buried
within her fleshly tomb.
The light that once burned bright
extinguished
as the flame burned no more…
Quietly I observed…
as we talked
her smile though still beautiful
on the outside it appeared
but the energy and laugh behind it…
now a silent sigh.
The lady in red
once so confident and proud
who with ease always lit up a crowded room…
now alone with self
empty
yet filled with secrets
each held captive
carefully by thoughts or regrets
while just beneath the surface
they loom.

This is an Interesting poem for you Lady J!
Love the eloquent but SAD feeling it emits!
YOU wrote it beautifully! From the mountains of Kentucky!
Your imagery of sadness when I don't think YOU really felt it!
Is kind of enlightening, from your perspective, the pain written clearly and felt strongly!

WRITE ON!

Hello Joyce

So glad to see you are back writing and posting again. I missed you. Congrats on your third book signing also. I just loved this poem, and the way your words of description and feelings came through. I bet that the Lady in Red has hidden in her eyes, her soul, for anyone who really cared to take the time to look. Thank you for sharing this one.

I saw her across the saloon illuminated by chandeliers long before the South would go into turmoil, I saw her floating in that elegant red cloud, and as our eyes meet we understood that it was too late.
Perhaps the author caught the last sad glimpse of her eyes, because this poem is carrying a lot of memories of times past.
