I Thought I Saw You Today...

As I passed a neighbor's old homestead the words to this poem filled my heart and thoughts...wanted to share it with my friends at the den.

I Thought I Saw You Today…

Driving the road that I so often do
the day as many before
something caught my attention
so quickly I did implore.
A shadowy figure I did see
walking through the yard
near old spot’s house
one of your favorite places to be.
I blinked my eyes in disbelief
as I knew you were gone
gone in body yet your spirit lives
where in the house you were born
more than one hundred years ago
now silently it does roam.
I thought I saw you today
or was it wishful thinking
on my behalf
as our community does still mourn…
The old home place will never be the same
missing lights at Christmas
no flowers blowing in the breeze
the jersey’s lot now empty
though on the mailbox remains your name.
Ivy now creeps up the exterior wall
dust adorns the windows where curtains still hang
empty is the old mule stall
with a smile upon my lips
I recalled the shadowy figure once again…
Yes…I thought I saw you today
roaming around the old home place
as I passed by your way.

Ifind it hard not to go passed by relativies homes who have died. Fascinating they pull me to them if I am only near them on a road. your verses make much sense to me and I feel as you do today and always will.

I watched my home vanish in less than two hours. We raised our children there but apparently, one cannot stop "progress." Thank you, Joyce. Love and best wishes,

This is really a good write Joyce. Even though my mother and I never got along, and she just didn't want to understand, I still miss her and I wish she was still here. But every now and then I feel her with me as I am sitting here typing. You have painted a very good picture of a memory that lasts and lasts. Thank you for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your den sister, Barbie.

A very lovely work, Joyce.

Just goes to prove that when you hold someone dear in your heart, they're never really ever gone.

And the older I get, the more I cherish my many memories of days gone by.

Thank you for stirring up a heap more!

Some people's spirits are forever bound into the atmosphere and even the bricks and mortar of a place, aren't they, Joyce? I'm not into ghosts, but I can heartily identify with this: there was one day in particular, probably about a year or so after my mother's death, I kept "seeing" her everywhere... I have no idea why. It's just a tangible way that we can know for sure that the human spirit lives on. A comforting account. Bless you, Kate xx
