        Brilliant colors.....

Oh summer where have you gone,
as each day now gloomy grows.
Warmth of the sun in an early morn,
slowly departing as each day shows.

Leaves begin turning brilliant colors,
of brown, orange, tan, red, and gold.
Rabbits scurry down deep in their den,
beneath the ground to avoid the cold.

Rivers, streams, and babbling brooks,
willows hanging low, silently weep.
Crystal clear water once full of life,
now left empty to churn way down deep.

Days become shorter, nights longer,
all to make way for the changing guard.
Saying goodbye brings tears to eyes,
new memories made, yet it still seems hard.

Birds fly high of multiple colors,
heading south for warmth and food.
Trees sway gently ushering in the new,
such a brisk breeze to change one's mood.

Plucked from the garden the last cantaloupe,
toads and gecko's have long moved away.
Time to begin clean up, the ground to breathe,
another garden snake slithers on its way.

Time to stock up on fireplace wood,
heated and crackling, sit back and listen.
Mesmerizing flames change color and dance,
demanding attention through a fire's glisten.

While a soft, plush, afghan rests on a lap,
in the background soft music proceeds to play.
Fond memories of may years gone by,
rewind within the mind until the light of day.

A transitional period, time to take stock,
rekindle all the love held within one's heart.
A time to gather close to family and friends,
with a heartfelt pledge never to part.

Fall always was the most beautiful time of year, but left me depressed thinking of the cold to come. Living in Florida now, I can enjoy visiting autumn without fear of what comes next! this is lovely. Kathy

turned them into an achingly lovely poem! Chose just the right amount of detail and turned it into a pictorial -- all with a few

You really are a master of this style. An awesome poet really. I love that final stanza turning all the "Autumn Melancholia" to a positive beat... "A transitional period, time to take stock,
rekindle all the love held within one's heart.
A time to gather close to family and friends,
with a heartfelt pledge never to part."

Yes, fall is the nostalgic season, and I miss it. Those who turn to the south for that "endless summer" pay a steep price: "NO true seasons!"
Thank you.

I don't mind the fall, it's my favorite time of year
But it's the thought of what comes next that enters the mind
Time to look forward to heating bills and snow

The changing of the weather means "one" good thing. Navel oranges, those sun cousins, are going to be in season soon. Just love sweet, juicy, navel oranges. Of course, those annoying tree leafs from the oaks are about to fall. On the other hand, think of the good cardio workout raking them up and adding them to the compost that will be used the next spring while getting the garden in looking forward to sweet, juicy tomatoes that are filled with rich flavor. Something to look forward to.
