Five Year Old Gracie

This little girl absolutely loves to play in the dirt.

She got up in the morn' and was ready to play
But first needed breakfast to start her day.
The meal was over, she made no mess
She wanted to play, so I said yes.
"Stay out of the mud and away from the dogs,
Don't dig any worms or catch any frogs."
Two seconds outside, what could it hurt
What was I thinking; she's covered in dirt.
What did I tell her and what has she done?
She only wanted to have some fun.
Her dress once was pretty, her hair once was nice
What was that saying 'bout sugar and spice?
I took one look at her and what could I say
My five-year-old Gracie just wanted to play.
