My heart is breaking ...

Image (c) 2009, Karla Dorman

You don't expect it, not here:
the sound of gunfire and
soldiers dead and wounded.
My heart is breaking for
those parents, those wives,
those husbands who will
get the call that their son, their
daughter, their spouse or
loved one is a casualty of war,
not on some damn desert
sand or high mountain pass,
but here, on U.S. soil, in
my backyard.  Over there,
you know the enemy will
shoot to kill, but not here -
especially one of our own, an
officer, a doctor for Pete's
sake.  It doesn't make sense.
I wonder what caused his
mind to snap to do what he did.
Twelve dead and thirty one
injured.  You know, they were
right when they said war is
hell.  Just didn't expect it here ...

I will wait for the story to unravel but my gut tells me I won't like the excuse no matter what it is. God bless the victims. Patrick

Hate is everywhere, not just "over there." It recognizes few boundaries and it's cunning with its power. I share your horror and frustration. Rebecca

As is usually the case with these things, I bet you'll come to find that the guy was on copious amounts of anti-depressants and he just snapped. Many of these mass shootings have that common-thread. Quiet sad indeed. Goes to show you that when you have a permanent war economy, these things wil happen. I thought we were fighting them over there so we didn't have to fight them here?

There are no answers to the "why" of such a horror. The last I heard the count of dead was at 13, not counting the wounded. How very sad and terrible!!!!

Our nation opened the doors to every one needing protection and a home, but our naivetι surely need to wake up, not everybody is worth of those open doors. The ugly head of Islam came because we opened our doors indiscriminately, don't tell me he was a psychiatry unstable one, there is not a muslim extremist that is not.
If you open your door to a killer don't ask why when he is about to kill you. Islam 13 and 30 - Innocence 0

It doesn't make sense.

The world seems to make less and less sense, every sad day now.

Sad but war is in a way anger. It hurts bad enough to know it is happening but when it is in our own back yard sort of, it hurts deeply.

It is sad that the last vestige of hope is slowly slipping throught this worlds fingers. As a child we prayed for world peace now we must pray for peace at home...

I have been in the Theater all evening, I am just learning of this tragedy. Oh my goodness this is so awful. I shall send healing energy out to all the victims and their families. My heart aches for their pain and suffering. You have written a beautiful poem about such a tragic event. May peace, love, and angel healing light be with you and everyone tonight,

Shame that daily there is a new tragedy to overtake the tragedy of yesterday and shame that we are becoming so hardened that yesterdays horrors somehow seem to painfully roll off our minds because if we dwelled on today's new horror, tomorrow would certainly drive us insane. But this one! This one to soldiers ready to die on the sands of Iraq or Afghanistan to die by a bullet, buy one of their own, in Texas, U.S.A.? What words are there to say other than the words you've said Karla.

This is such a sad and terrible day. You expect this on foreign soil, not here. Not on our own military base by one of our own.

Well expressed pain and anger, Karla. We're all feeling a mixed bag of it right now.

I'm angry too Karla....in shock. Our enemy doesn't need PR with someone like this. How could this happen so quickly and with so many people.
God made extra room for them today. They go to join others and to wait for us.
Love and hugs!
