Can't play the Blues

Maybe it was hunger,
Maybe child support.
Or when I had to pay that fine in the traffic court,
I knew just then I'd have to use
My very last resort,

My old and trusty guitar,
Had gotten me by before.
Not from getting paid to play,
But through the Pawn Shop door.

I took her in with much remorse,
And got my usual loan.
I didn't really want to cry,
So all I did was moan.

Leaving, I turned and said to the clerk,
"I'm glad you're not in my shoes,
But 'till a guitar's been in a Pawn Shop,
It can't really play the Blues."

:)))))))))) Smilin through the rain here, Walt! Can just here this done in Blues-style, too. Raw-to-the-bone honest emotion, yet with a backbone of resiliance and humour, too. And it sure does get us through those tough times... And now the Baby can play, eh? And then some, I'll bet. Love this, thank you. Kate xx

You have the temerity of show your face after so long time away? gimme that guitar because I know a good place where the sun don't shine to stash it!
But can't play the Blues is a regal entrance, back in the Den of many bards and poetesses, you are showing with this write your real colors, those of a very missed poet!

I sold my guitar too, back some ways now, but only got a hundred for her, though she was well worth a hundred times that to me...I feel your pain, but at least, unless someone else buys it first, you can get it back eventually...mine is totally gone...Ed

Your words are truer than you can ever imagine. Let me see, was it Ledbelly or David Bromberg who was quoted as saying, "you have to suffer if you want to sing the blues".....

Be always safe,
Karen
