This reflective poem speaks to the issues of faith and the brevity of life.

Ants to Ancestors  © 4/1/2008

By J. Joy “Sistah Joy” Matthews Alford

Yesterday and tomorrow

Those twin harbingers of time

Laugh as we

Like frantic ants

Sandwiched between the two

Dance to distant drum beats

Planting our feet and faith firmly

Hoping to defeat our mortality

Knowing in the end

Only ancestors

Can perfect this dance

Very deep and insightful, bringing to mind the circle which is Alpha and Omega and the connectivity that forever binds us to those who have walked this plane before us and those who will follow. And reminding us that we must both blaze new paths while helping others find existing roads we have been led to by our foreparents.

Our footsteps feed the wisdom of the petals of our souls, we hand them down with hope our predecessors' will continue the dance...
Beautiful wise words of wisdom...
