When poor loses out

My love sailed for America
In the year of twenty two
And left me with this bleeding heart
There is nothing I can do

Her father took her far away
Far away from Scotlands shore
He said I was no good for her
Now I'll nay see her no more

So I sit here on a windy day
High upon a lonely hill
And blow a kiss to touch her face
But I know it never will

I'd work my passage, my love to find
I would sail through stormy seas
But America is all so vast, tis said
And I know not where she be

In my head I hope she's happy there
But my heart, it disagrees
cause' I love her more than life itself
Now my tears fall like dying leaves

But I will not blame her father
For I know his reason why
Cause' I'm the son of a pauper
And a paupers son I'll die
