Uneven Pavement

by Amber "V" Moonstone

Sign posted, "Uneven Pavement
Sudden stops, drive with caution".
I began to feel like that uneven pavement,
half done and half undone.

Riding along the highway two wheels
on the finished pavement
and two wheels on the unfinished pavement
had me feeling very off balance.

I drove along the road for a few miles,
and began to analyze just what I was feeling.
It didn't work for me,
So I took the next exit.

Wouldn't it be amazing
if you could just exit
every time you felt off balance;
instead of coming up with new ways that work.

Balancing your life is very challenging,
It requires constant exiting and entering,
knowing when the end of the road is imminent,
and recognizing the right signs.

One day that road will be smooth
and paved with many opportunities
Let us hope that we will not have to make
a quick exit before we have truly lived our destiny!

Very inspiring, Amber. I especially like the last two verses. The message doubles in meaning there. Hugs,

isn't is just like that too?
so smooth listenin to jams...then bam....dangerous curves up ahead...or in this case "Uneven Pavement"...it gives us strngth & endurance though...and your pavement paves a way for you to reach your desired destination no matter the work of the enemy...

what a relief for parallel roads without stop signs and exits that enter together ...

I think your turn signals would wear out. You sound very adaptive to me young lady as your following verses indicate. Facing challenges is what makes us stronger. Great realism. Patrick

The highway of life - this is a great analogy. I think we've all felt this way, which makes your poem replete with personal relatability and empathy. Sending healing wishes your way.

The world should have come fitted with a hand-brake so we all could stop it and get off when unbalance tries to take over.
Nobody walks balanced on uneven pavement with six inches high stilettos.

Now this is what I call a Tar Baby! Many years ago, when I spent time in a recording studio, my sound engineer laid down a track for my narration. He looped the music for me to accomodate the length of the narrations, some went on for 3 minutes, some I spoke for twenty minutes. I instructed him to "center" the music, meaning to start the music and let it run a few seconds before my voice came in and do the same when I ended each narration, after I spoke my last word, the music should run the same amount of time it did at the beginning and then end. Know that recording studios are very expensive by the hour. On one of the selections, the music ended just a little second before my voice ended - how ironic that this happened because this particular selection I was reciting a prayer, so how appropriate it should be that to end it in silence turned out Great! So the sound engineer said we had a Tar Baby! An uneven surface. What to do about it? I said "Nothing! I am not paying for another two hours to do it again. When I got home, it was then that I realized that serendipity made the day, that this selection was "supposed" to have been this way. So, Amber, Uneven Pavement is not a stall tactic at all, nor a detour, it is a Tar Baby! Sooner or later we see that dreaded hot tar machine flipping tar on our car, we pull off to the side of the road and scream, "Tar Baby!"

Love,
Sage
