Cantankerous Horse

Dear Lord...

I know I prayed

begged and cajoled
I wanted and Arab
so flashy so bold,

But Lord...

Let me ask You
as a matter of course...
why'd You pick
this cantankerous horse?

Impossible to mount
As he dances in place...
do you think it's possible
You may have acted in haste?

And Father...

I was just wondering
what made You choose
this ridiculous saddle
were you somewhat confused?

So adorned in silver ...
I can't
move it about,
but YOU placed it before me
so I'll figure it out.

Oh Lord...please listen...

I thought I was doing
this whole thing just right
when I answered Your ad
In the paper last night.

And just to be sure
I thought I'd pray
and thank You for Your guidance
before I bought him today

Surely my Father
this is not what You meant...
I think the devil may have made
this horse that you sent.

Or could it be possible
that I was a little hell-bent
on having this Arab
that HE may have sent.

Remember this story
of my saddle and steed...
for this is what happens
when WE take the lead

Now then....Lord
what'er we gonna do
with this
cantankerous horse?

This brings back memories of the over-fed buckskin quarterhorse my dad harbored when I was a kid. I have never seen another face more expressive than his, bar none. He spent a lot of time with his ears laid back with an especially sullen pout on his beatific visage. Yup, when he was old and ready to go, he went to the dogfood shelf...just kidding...no really...just kidding....!

How much you remind me of my longing for a puppy a year after losing my little buddy Corky. Sugarplum was a cutie, but we thought she'd drive us crazy for the first year or so!
I hope your wonderful Arab and you become fond friends before long.
There's a lot of wisdom hidden in this clever poem.

Now girl, why in earth you didn't let the Big Pal in the Sky to win when you two played a game of chess? That He cheat? so, what's new? He can read your thoughts! and asking after that borched game for a horse was the same than asking Him to show His weird sense of humor!!!
