Who is this Wounded Warrior? What is He?
Is it everyman in uniform who wants to be?
The Man sacrificed, time has brought
Called to battle tasks he was sought
When playful games of youth's thoughts
Taken away, became stark realities in battle light
His life up to this point was bright
Full of promises, truth, hope, a desire burn
Now blasted away in a moment learned
Except for his resolve left there
In a hospital now, bandaged care
Is he really alone, unsmiling, swathe in silent Pain?
Fearful, miserable, alone with a permanent stain
of a missing limb, or thoughts of unsecured gain
In face of adversity they thrive these cohorts
of men and women no longer whole...they seek support
Just a casual care, here and there
a hello, handshake, and a pat-on-the-back so pure
Life was almost cut short but for a cure
Now, all that is left is the brave wounded warrior to endure
Virtuous triumph---he has all the grace
Much much more you or I had ever to face
In battle, such fidelity
Reduced now to daily chores of living, what can be done?
His awkward moves, artificial limbs
Deserve applause
This is the Wounded Warrior of freedom's cause
This is he or she
That every man, woman, and child is proud to be...
