The jet plane is full of expectations
Gleaming eyes,
Sweaty palms,the
Clouds toss and turn in the
Strong tradewinds and dreams of a lifetime
Fulfilled at last in sunshine
Loose talk and loving gazes
Couples and singles, alone
Home–for me removed and hopeful tourists
Returning or first-time
like a first love made a new or renewed
-Everyone comes from afar
like a soldier going home at last
beneath us in a steel box...
Mixture of laughter and love now
makes my Hawaiian rose so perfect
the test of time and endured
Oh I loathe the bittersweet of homecoming
and leaving
Like a blue swirling unsettled Pacific below
My thoughts wander about the next hour
How long has it been?
One day like a year and a year like a day
Flying over the ocean bears no mercy
only memories of Hawaii carved so fragrant
Opens now before me
My Hawaiian rose...
