That's why Utah ( call for challenge)

Okay fellow poets: This is a call for a challenge. Let's hear your poetic creations on WHY you live where you live. You can write in any form, or as a collaberation with others. You can write about your country, state, or even just town. This should be fun. Looking forward to reading your reasons.
:-)

Besides my hubby being a native Utahn, that's WHY I live here:

‘cause snowbird isn’t something flies
you ski there fall to May,
and Timpanogos’ silently cries
on her mountain’s top each day.

‘cause red rocks shimmer in the sun
for a million years or more,
and big trout swim in water’s run
in the depth of Flaming Gorge.

‘cause knee deep are the grassy slopes
of Nebo’s alpine heights,
and cowboys know to throw their ropes
‘til moonlit are the nights.

‘cause autumn colors paint the ridge
of the Wasatch range in hues,
and February feels just like a fridge
when black bears take their snooze.

‘cause you can find a cozy shack
where white tail roam the woods,
and mountain bikes race on single track
and neighbors share baked goods.

‘cause Utah arose from working hands
and sacred is the land of the Utes,
visit Sundance, Zion, and Canyonlands
and bring your hiking boots.

‘cause Dinosaurs were all around
in Utah’s north east corner,
their bones were found deep in the ground
I wonder if they had mourners.

‘cause liberty ain’t just a word
we appreciate our vets,
just like the Pony Express’ riders spurred
we’re aiming forward - no regrets.

‘cause Golden Spike, against all odds
connected east and west,
and the Tabernacle choir brings me closer to God
that’s why I like Utah best.

A Lil' Taste of Texas (thanks for getting my Lone Star genes pumping)

Texas pure red, white and blue
Lone star branded in oil and
the flame of energy
space race point counting
Houston, we have a problem
touchdown on the Cowboys line
mixed together old west and
new world order, multicultural,
business and food,
heartbeat of the cities pounding
to the beat of a horse and car
moving side by side
rope a deal and calf on the same day
tallest tales and the most
beautiful country filled
with flowers and streams
urban, suburban, cowboy, cowgirl,
the past and the present coexist
nothing but future in our fist
Texas proud, Texas bred,
Texan until death.
Who can resist being
in such a proud state?

Never could deny a challenge!!!

Came to Texas -- nineteen ninety-five,
to do a job - to keep myself alive,
the job was five months long,
I sung a law enforcement song,
the Secret Service gave me pay,
but I waited for the day
when I could leave -- go back home
for I did not want to roam,
but the longer that I stayed,
met the people -- talked and prayed,
the more I found my peace of mind,
these Texas people are so kind
and I think I've found my roots
in slower paces -- cowboy boots,
I could write a loving tome
about this place that I call home.

Cool challenge, Rebecca :-)

I've visited them all, and I've spent quite a bit of time in Utah - a marvelous place, rich in history and natural wonders, and probably in my top three places to live.

And a wonderful poetic challenge, too. I'll post my entry, shortly.
