I walk the streets we walked
|
I walk the same streets we walked. Alone. The emptiness in my breast, A living thing. The heels of my shoes, Pound out The beat of my heart. Echoes bounce Off the walls of my brain.
Faces once familiar, pass me by. I do not recognize them. The landmarks Are unchanged. The world is The same as before. Should this be? How can change Be unchanged?
You are gone. Your footsteps No longer match mine: Footstep by footstep, Heartbeat by heartbeat. I walk these streets alone. Your spirit has flown Away from mine. And I am undone.

This is simple, yet complex in its expression of emotion.
I have walked this path... wondering why others don't seem to notice that my world has changed-- fallen apart... Only those who have walked the same path can truly understand. From your poem I know that you have walked those streets too... Well done!

Debra, when I read this it made me think of times I've felt alone, and what you have writen haunts me. The imagery is so fresh.
You've incarnated the feeling of alone, and that is quite an achievement in my opinion. Wow!
Please continue to write poetry. You have a way with words!
